It didn’t quite go to plan, if there was one ? After the somewhat short preparation I gave for the event, it was obviously not enough when it came to the swim.Take note. It’s all so easy in the pool and the one time I gave it in a wetsuit in the sea was evident that I was totally unprepared for my first open water event with a mass start. The water temp` was 20` so I ditched the wetsuit and stuck with the trisuit. It wasn’t cold at all. Teresa told me to stay out of the pack at the start and to relax, everything I know and preach.

Countdown 321 and off. I was right in the thick of it, although that didn’t bother me and wasn’t aware that I was trying to sprint it. However I could not control my breathing and I was struggling very soon, and by the time I had reached the first bouy I was in considerable O2 debt. Half way to the next bouy it was obvious to me that that I had to call the boat in, as my chest was tightening up so much that I was in discomfort. A bit of let down for me cause I so wanted so much to do the swim. However once back on ground after recovering, went on to complete the ride and run, with no problems. Obviously no times for me, just pleased to have been a part of it, I’m still alive which is a bonus. Next tri will be Ringmer and more practice in the sea ( on a calm day ).

Well done all of Esporta today,we got a few gongs and we all did very well and isn’t Alison awesome. Thanks to Teresa T. for tea and cakes.
