FullSizeRenderA three week break and it was time for races 3 and 4. But first some pro cycling to see. The first 22 laps of the 5k park motor racing circuit, which goes around a lake in Albert Park, a bit like Hyde Park in London. As part of their training the Sky team rode 120k to the start from their local hotel. An inevitable sprint finish, all run off at 50kph. Next was the Sun Tour with prologue passing along the river embankment and our apartment block with Chris Froome the star attraction, with some interesting bikes.
Back to tri, race 3 saw good weather, a 20 minute ride to the start and flat seas. Warming up for the swim, the water was clear and I swam over what looked like a Flounder or was it a lost Dover sole, or indeed a dangerous 1stingray, it swam away and our paths didn’t cross again so I will never know. A reasonable swim, good T1 and fastish bike and ok run made for a good race, the big problem being the youngsters who have joined my age group. I felt sore the next day, and was still tired on Tuesday, old age showing, but by Wednesday time for some light training ready for race 4.
Now the weather had turned with storms forecast. A longer, 45 min ride to the start in the dark and wet with a strong wind to add to the fun. Despite the weather They still had over 1,000 racing inc the mini sprint and kids races. The seas were rough with 1.5m waves so the swim was cut to 350m which I actually enjoyed although I drank most of the bay. A short run across a deep sandy beach, then the dreaded 300m run uphill to transition, out on the bike, careful not to draft, T2 and out on the run which felt good, good being a relative term. Goodish times at the k markers and at 4 feeling well pleased with my time then a long run into the finish and a c..p time, the k markers obviously weren’t accurately spaced! Anyhow Oz season over for this year, and four races in five weeks was pushing it a bit. As a finale I went to MSAC the former commonwealth indoor/outdoor 50m pool in the sun shine, good fun but hard work swimming in a 50m pool. Next stop Haywards Heath or Uckfield or maybe Steyning tri, what choices.
