The second Brighton & Hove Triathlon took place on Hove seafront with 1000 competitors. Representing the club were Fran, Sheena and myself competing in the olympic and Jo competing in the sprint triathlon.

Having only completed my first ever triathlon run by the club last year, this was my first olympic distance so was feeling particularly nervous before the start of the sea swim. The three of us had entered in the women only wave in the hope for a slightly smaller and less ferocious start group. The sun was shining, and more importantly the sea was flat, so we all had a good and dare I say very enjoyable swim.

Then onto the scenic cycle along the seafront on the closed road bike leg with 8 lap loops.

Finally it was into the flat run along the iconic beach lined promenade for a 4 lap course, which at times felt like an obstacle course as some people walking didn’t realise there was a race on! We all made it through the finish line and really enjoyed the event. I was pretty chuffed as came second overall.

Being a local event we had a great support crew from family, friends and Virgin Active staff to help keep us going.

All in all a well organised event and one we will be entering again.

That was my 7th and final event for the 2017 season, I firmly love triathlon, I just need to keep improving my weaker discipline; swimming.
